Abraham Lincoln (February 12, 1809 to April 15,1865), American statesman, the founder of the Republican Party and was 16th president of the United States, who was fighting cocks at the White House lawn, when he was accosted by an irate woman. He said, “Ma’m as long as the good Lord allows civilized men created in His own image to fight wars and kill each other, while the civilized world stands by and watches–t’s not my place to deny the lowly chicken the same opportunity!” Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the US from March 1861 until his assassination on April 1865. Lincoln led the United States through its Civil War – its bloodiest War and perhaps it’s greatest moral, political and constitutional crisis in history. In doing so, he preserved the Union, paved the way for the abolition of slavery, strengthened the federal government and modernized the economy.
